I was the first to Hyttevika August 12, 2009 and I remember that after leaving this magical place, located at the northern entrance of Hornsund in front of the sanctuary to birds what the island Dunøyane I n 'had only one desire, to return as soon as possible! This is done today, so I'll try to share with you this morning outstanding. Imagine you are at 77 degrees north, just at the entrance of a vast fjord called Hornsund. It is 11 ° C, the wind is absolutely zero, not a cloud in the sky just the sun almost overhead ... To approach the landing beach, there is one kilometer to go, surrounded by ice and the whole game is that to make their way through the maze. Gradually the sandy beach is in sight, you put your foot in response to a trapper's cabin and lived from 1932 to 1937 a woman Wanny Woldstand. Just behind the cabin, a huge landslide with large rocks is presented to you after a few minutes walk straight, you're up and the view is breathtaking; left a huge meadow tundra green, yellow, orange with small rivers in the middle. Some reindeer graze peacefully, mixed with Barnacle Geese and Pink-footed geese. Right below you is the famous cabin and off the sea out of sight partly covered with ice, with a plate off a bear hunt. Further to the right, an immense glacier flows into the sea sort of cathedral of ice. Finally, above you, thousands of little auks you shave their heads so close that you feel the rustling of the wings. Flocks of birds take wide turns over the sea to return to the top of your head ... I did some photos, an arctic fox appears, I have to sit in front of the legs sawed this magical place, it's too ... I felt this feeling once, in June 2007 when the polar night sky of Terre Adélie in the aurora australis. Mother Nature thank you, thank you a thousand times this morning which I will not go unscathed (again)!

Hi Clemence, I was happy to come to your class, too, really! I am in the Arctic right now and it's been like with you except that it is much cooler
Yes I saw the birds of the family of penguins as Thick-billed Murres, Black Guillemots, the Little Auk and Puffin. I am on a boat at the moment and not on a base.
Happy holidays!
