I did not talk of Roald Amundsen after my two previous articles. But then, Norway has also recently shown its commitment to its past polar, including by engaging in search of the aircraft the French Latham 47. This left Tromsø June 18, 1928, in order to rescue the Italian Umberto Nobile in distress in his attempt to fly over North Pole by airship.
The aircraft had on board Roald Amundsen, Leif Dietriechson, Corvette Captain Rene Guilbaud, Albert Cavelier de Cuverville, Valletta and Emile Gilbert Brazy. They will never return. Norway has therefore conducted from August 24 to September 5, 2009, a massive campaign of underwater search of the remains of the aircraft using highly sophisticated methods: a research vessel, two remote-controlled underwater sonar and trendy, but in vain ... The mystery of the disappearance of Amundsen and his team remains.
